Francophonie Week in Tanzania

From March 16-23, 2009, Vietnam Embassy proactively participated in activities in the framework of French and Francophonie Week in Dar es Salaam and other cities in Tanzania such as Zanzibar and Arusha.

On the morning March 20th, Cultural Attaché Office of France Embassy hold a press briefing with the attendance of representatives from diplomat missions in Francophonie community. At the briefing, Vietnam First Secretary Tran Quang Khai said French is the mother tongue or second language of over 200 million people in over the world, in which a half is African. He also revealed that there are many French-speaking people in Vietnam now. French is used in communication, diplomacy, culture and trade due to its diversity and courtesy. The young generation is keen on discovering French for peace, cooperation and development.

Programme of Francophonie Week is very impressive with many activities, as followed:

- In Dar es Salaam: picture exhibition, cultural exchange night, Francophonie football tournament, French for children and adult, Francophonie Film Festival – including Belgium, Canada, France and Switzerland. At Dar es Salaam University: French music contest and friendly football march between students in French faculty.
- In Arusha: French oral examination and French music and songs.
- In Zanzibar: Francophonie Film Festival and French for children and adult.

On March 20th, in the evening, together with other ambassadors in Francophonie in Tanzania, Vietnam Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary Nguyen Duy Thien attended and co-hosted the reception at Movenpick Hotel. More than 200 guesses including Tanzanian administrative officials and people, representatives from diplomatic missions and non-government organizations in Dar Es Salaam attended the reception. On behalf of Francophonie in Tanzania, Belgium Ambassador delivered opening speech./.
