Ethiopia desires to cement relations with Vietnam

On June, 22, Ethiopia President Girma Wolde-giorgis expressed desire to cement friendship and partnership with Vietnam while receiving H.E. Mr. Nguyen Duy Thien, Ambassador-designate to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

President Wolde-giorgis expressed sincere thanks and asked H.E. Mr. Thien to convey health wishes to H.E. Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, warm congratulations to the people of Vietnam on great achievements which Vietnam has gained in the renewal process.

In return, Mr. Thien reiterated the honour to be appointed as Ambassador-designate to Ethiopia – a historical and potential country, having good relations with Vietnam.

During the talks and meetings, Ethiopia side said that Vietnam has worn in its struggle for national independence, setting an excellent example for other countries in the process of national development, sovereignty protection and international integration.

Ethiopia and Vietnam have shared common views on international and regional issues, therefore the two sides need to cooperate closely in order to grasp opportunities, otherwise minimize negative impacts in the context of global financial crisis. In parallel with enhancing political ties, the two nations necessarily focus on economic, trade and investment cooperation. Ethiopia is willing to welcome Vietnamese investors.

Over the past decades, Ethiopia’s GDP has grown over 10%/year on the average, the highest speed within African non-oil countries. Ethiopia is a supplier of meat, mild, leather, especially coffee and cotton./.
