Vietnamese Ambassador presents credentials to President of the Republic of Mauritius

President of the Republic of Mauritius H.E.Mr. Anerood Jugnauth spoke highly on the appointment of H.E.Mr. Nguyen Duy Thien as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Mauritius with residence in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) at the ceremony of credentials presentation on 12/21/2009 in Port Louis, capital of Mauritius.

The President delightedly asked Ambassador Thien to convey his warm regards to the President of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Triet, expressing great pleasure that Vietnam has gained gigantic progress during its course of national defense, construction and development. Member of Francophonie was mentioned as one of many similarities that would form a basis for further cooperation between the two countries, especially in economics, trade and investment in the years to come.

During the stay in Port Louis, Ambassador Thien paid courtesy call to Dr. The Hon. Arvin Boolell, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, working visits to Board of Investment of Mauritius and Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Minister A.Boolell and other senior officials desired that Vietnam and Mauritius would finalize agreement of double taxation avoidance in order to create favorable environment for bilateral trade and investment cooperation. Mauritius expected Vietnam to support Mauritius’ observer status over Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in its chairmanship of ASEAN 2010.

The Republic of Mauritius resides in India Ocean. Between Africa and Asia, it possesses wonderful landscape, nice natural and security environment and stable political situation with peaceful multi-ethnic population. Recently, Mauritius has utilized available advantages to transform economic structure from agriculture largely based on sugar cane production to maritime services, tourism, and logistics for maritime and trade, information technology, free ports, etc. Thousands of foreign enterprises have head office in Mauritius with the aim of promoting trade and investment to other countries in Africa or constructing outland warehouses in order to transfer goods to Africa. According to the last report of World Bank, Mauritius ranked globally 17th in business facilitation. Per capita income reached US$ 7,000 in 2008 as one of the highest in Africa./.
